Alan Higgins

The Photographer

I am Alan Higgins, Owner of LithiumDreams Photography.

I was born in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in New York, but shortly after my birth my mother moved us to Homer, NY at the base of the Finger Lake region. At 10 years old I was given a instamatic camera. I took pictures of everything and everyone. At 13 I went to an experimental school set up to teach teachers. I took up photography while in science class where I learned darkroom skills and techniques. When I went into the Army at 19 I picked up a camera to take with me on my travels. I shot pictures in El Paso, TX and then in Germany, France and Greece - mostly landscapes and architecture.

Upon returning to the US, I took a break, even sold my camera. Then in 1994 I bought back my camera and started taking pictures again. Still capturing mostly, dew drops off tree limbs, and cracks in the sidewalk I used natural light to make my pictures come to life. By 1998 I was shooting sunrises and sunsets. Shooting so many - I would buy the cheapest film and shoot until I ran out. In 2000 I was published, a beautiful picture of the sunrise shot from one bridge looking at an older bridge over the Chesapeake Canal.

In 2004 I opened my first studio and started shooting modeling portfolio's. I look back and wonder why models came to this studio it was set up in my efficiency apartment. I was shooting while sitting on my futon, my dresser was inches away from the backdrop. I look back at those pictures and am amazed at how great the pictures from my first digital camera came out. Early 2006 I moved into a larger more professional studio and shared it with my friend.. this was the place I really started to hone my skills, experiment and create a style.

In late 2007 I moved to Atlanta, Ga with my graphic artist wife. Started creating art for art shows. Became a paparazzi for fashion shows working the red carpet as well as  the show. I have owned three different studios while here, finally finding the right place in the country and my current studio serves as a great framework for my current projects from art to glamour to whatever my dreams reveal.
